What is the CEP?
The CEP (Comprobante Electrónico de Pago) is the official proof that a SPEI transfer settled. It is generated by the institution receiving the payment, and anyone can validate it on Banxico’s portal with the operation’s data. For a financial institution, issuing the CEP correctly and automatically is an operational obligation of the scheme, not an extra.
What a CEP contains
- Settlement date and time of the transfer
- Sending and receiving institutions
- Origin and destination accounts (masked)
- Operation amount
- Tracking key (clave de rastreo) assigned by the sender
- Digital seal accrediting the operation with Banxico
CEP and the tracking key: how they relate
The clave de rastreo is the unique identifier the sender assigns to each transfer; the CEP is the receipt the receiving institution issues when that transfer settles. In a payment inquiry, the tracking key locates the operation and the CEP proves it. A well-built integration links both end to end: every payment has its key, its acknowledgement and its receipt, all retrievable from the operations dashboard.
What it means for your institution
Issuing the CEP on time and without errors requires the payments platform to complete the settlement cycle: acknowledgement reception, settlement confirmation, receipt generation and per-transaction traceability. On the InterPago platform the CEP is issued automatically upon settlement confirmation, with an immutable audit log to answer inquiries and audits.

Frequently asked questions
What is the CEP of a SPEI transfer?
The CEP (Comprobante Electrónico de Pago) is the official receipt proving a SPEI transfer settled. It is generated by the receiving institution and can be retrieved on Banxico's portal using the operation's date, accounts and tracking key (clave de rastreo).
How is a CEP validated?
On Banxico's CEP lookup portal, by entering the operation date, the tracking key or reference number, the sending and receiving banks, the account and the amount. If the data matches a settled operation, the portal returns the receipt.
What is the clave de rastreo?
It is the unique identifier the sending institution assigns to each SPEI transfer. It allows end-to-end tracking of the operation and is the primary key for retrieving the CEP or investigating a payment.
What are an institution's obligations regarding the CEP?
The receiving institution must issue the CEP for every settled payment and make it available to the customer. A complete SPEI integration generates the CEP automatically as part of the settlement cycle, with the traceability needed to answer payment inquiries.
