What is a SPID connection?
A SPID connection is the technical and operational link between a financial institution and Banxico's Sistema de Pagos Interbancarios en Dólares, allowing it to send and receive same-day dollar transfers between Mexican accounts. It requires compliance validations beyond SPEI's, such as RFC and LEI.
This guide covers the connection side: who can participate, what is needed to connect, and how certification works. If what you want is an explanation of the scheme itself, see what SPID is and how a transfer works; for the contrast with the peso rail, see difference between SPEI and SPID.
Requirements to connect to SPID
- Be an authorized participant of the dollar scheme or integrate through one
- Native-protocol connectivity with encrypted sessions and valid certificates
- RFC and LEI validation integrated into the payment flow
- USD settlement and reconciliation against the core banking system
- Contingency and reporting aligned with the scheme's rules
How InterPago solves it
InterPago integrates SPID on the same platform as SPEI: shared connectivity, digital signing, settlement, reconciliation and reporting, plus the dollar operating window and its specific validations. Integrating both schemes in one project reduces the total cost and certification time.
Frequently asked questions
Who can connect to SPID?
Only institutions authorized as participants in the dollar scheme, or those operating through an already authorized participant. The institution must demonstrate technical capability for connectivity, cryptographic signing and contingency, plus the reinforced compliance controls specific to dollar operations.
What is SPID's operating window?
Monday through Friday, 08:00 to 17:00. Unlike SPEI, which runs 24×7, SPID is intraday only and does not operate on weekends or holidays.
What additional validations does SPID require?
SPID applies compliance requirements beyond SPEI's, including validation of the RFC and the LEI (legal entity identifier) of the corporate entities involved, plus the anti-money-laundering controls specific to dollar operations.
Can SPID be integrated on the same platform as SPEI?
Yes. The connectivity, signing, settlement and reconciliation architecture is shared; SPID adds the dollar operating window and its specific validations. With InterPago, many institutions integrate both schemes in the same project.
