InterPago ▸ SPEI cost calculator

Calculator: when is connecting directly to SPEI worth it?

Enter your figures and see the break-even point between paying per operation to a sponsor and running your own connection.

The cost of operating on SPEI takes two very different shapes. Under indirect participation you pay per operation to a sponsor, so cost grows exactly in step with your business. Under direct participation you make an up-front investment and carry a relatively fixed monthly cost, so each additional operation costs less on average.

That means the right question is not which is cheaper, but at what volume the two curves cross. This tool calculates that crossing point with your figures.

Every figure is yours. We do not publish prices and this calculator is not a quote: it does the arithmetic normally done in a spreadsheet, so you can take the number into an internal conversation. If you want to test your assumptions against a real scope, request an assessment.

Your cost today (indirect participation)

What you currently pay to operate through a sponsor or aggregator.

Direct connection (your estimate)

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to connect directly to SPEI?

There is no single figure: it depends on the participation model, the infrastructure the institution already has, and the scope of certification. What is stable is the shape of the cost: an up-front investment plus a monthly running cost, versus a per-operation cost in the indirect model. That is why the useful question is not how much it costs, but from what monthly volume it becomes worthwhile.

At what volume does direct participation make sense?

It makes sense when the per-operation cost you pay today, multiplied by your monthly volume, sustainably exceeds the monthly cost of running your own connection. That is the break-even volume this tool calculates. Below it, indirect participation is usually cheaper; above it, every additional operation works in your favour.

What does this calculator not account for?

It does not account for dedicated staffing, the timelines of the Banxico certification process, or the non-monetary value of operational control and independence from a third party. It is also not a quote: every figure is one you entered.

Is saving money the only reason to connect directly?

No, and often it is not the main one. Direct participation changes who your operational continuity depends on, who sets your processing hours and priorities, and how quickly you can launch new products. For some institutions the case is economic, for others it is strategic even without a clear saving.
